This short morning prayer is for the moment you wake up already feeling thin, when the day ahead looks heavier than your energy. Pray it first thing, before you check your phone or step into the kitchen, or at any point when you need strength to meet what is coming. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Short Morning Prayer for Finding Strength

Lord, I wake up and already feel the weight of today. I think about the meeting at nine, the email I have been avoiding, the phone call I need to make to the doctor’s office, and the conversation with my teenager that I know will be hard. My body feels tired before I have even put my feet on the floor. Please meet me here, in this ordinary, unfinished morning, and remind me that you are already awake and already at work.

Give me strength that does not depend on how well I slept or how much I have figured out. When my patience runs short with the people I love, fill the gap with your kindness. When my mind races toward every possible failure, slow it down and bring me back to the next small step. Help me do the one thing in front of me this morning with honesty and care, and trust you with the rest of the day.

I do not need to carry this alone. Whatever I cannot do today, I give to you, and whatever you ask of me, I will try to do with the strength you supply. Let my first words be gentle, my first decisions be wise, and my first thoughts turn toward you. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired and this day is already full. Give me enough strength for the next hour, and then for the hour after that. Steady my hands, quiet my worried thoughts, and help me be kind to the people I meet. I trust you to hold what I cannot. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

Pray this passage when your energy feels spent before the day has even started. Ask God to give you the strength you lack, and to renew you for the tasks you have been dreading.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

Read these verses slowly while you wait for the coffee to brew. Name the specific trouble you expect today and remind yourself that God is a refuge close at hand.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When yesterday’s failures still weigh on you, pray this passage and ask for fresh mercy. Thank God that his faithfulness is new each morning, including this one.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when your own resources feel exhausted. Ask God to be the strength of your heart in the hours ahead, even when your body and mind are running low.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer before you pick up your phone or check messages, while you are still sitting on the edge of the bed or standing at the kitchen sink. Holding a warm cup of tea or resting a hand on your chest can help your attention settle. If you have a few minutes, write down the one or two people you will see today and pray their names silently as you finish the prayer.

You can also pray this with someone who shares your home or your work. A spouse, roommate, or friend can read it aloud over you before you part ways, and you can return the favor. Praying together at the door in the morning turns a rushed goodbye into a moment of shared trust.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who renews the weary go with you into this day. May he steady your steps, guard your heart, and give you enough strength for each task and each person you meet. Whatever the hours bring, may you rest in the knowledge that you are held. Amen.
