This is a prayer for grace and mercy, written for the moments when you feel you have failed, when shame sits heavy, or when you simply need to receive God’s kindness instead of earning it. You can pray it in the morning before the day’s demands arrive, at night when regret keeps you awake, or in the middle of a hard conversation. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and let your own words follow.
Christian Prayer for Grace and Mercy
Lord, I come to you today without pretending. I have fallen short in ways I know well and in ways I may not yet see. I have said things I wish I could take back, and I have carried anger, fear, or pride longer than I should. Thank you that you do not turn away from me when I stumble. Forgive me where I have been careless with your gifts and with the people you placed around me. Cleanse what is hidden and give me the honesty to name it.
Father, I also ask for grace, the kind that gives me strength I do not have on my own. Meet me in my weakness and steady my hands. When I am tempted to hide, to make excuses, or to measure myself against others, remind me that my worth rests in your love and not in my performance. Let your mercy be new to me again this morning, and help me to show that same mercy to those who have wronged me. Teach me to be patient, gentle, and quick to forgive. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I need your grace right now. I feel the weight of what I have done and what I fear I cannot fix. Have mercy on me. Forgive what I have failed to confess, and give me the strength to take the next faithful step. Let your kindness reach me in this moment and soften my heart toward myself and toward others. Thank you that your mercy is not used up. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet time and place where you will not be interrupted, such as a chair by a window before the house wakes up or a parked car during a lunch break. Keep a pen nearby, and if a specific failure or person comes to mind while you pray, write it down and bring it before God by name. Sitting with your hands open on your lap can help you receive rather than grasp.
You may also pray this with someone you trust. A spouse, a close friend, or a small group can take turns reading the lines aloud, which is especially helpful when shame makes it hard to speak on your own. Ask one another to pray for mercy in the places where you each feel most stuck, and close by thanking God together for his faithfulness.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who is rich in mercy meet you where you are and wrap you in a grace that does not run out. May he lift the weight you have carried, steady your heart, and give you peace that holds through the day ahead. May you know, in your deepest places, that you are loved and forgiven and held.
