This short morning prayer is for asking God to bless the people around you, your neighbors, church family, coworkers and the local people you will see before the day is done. Pray it as soon as you are up, while the house is quiet or while the coffee is still brewing. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Short Morning Prayer for My Community
Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of another day. Before I think about my own list, I bring the people around me to you. Be with my neighbors as they get up, some to rushed breakfasts, some to empty rooms, some to worry they have not yet named. Be with the families on my street who are tired, the parents who are stretched thin, and the children who will walk to school carrying more than their backpacks.
Watch over those who serve us: the nurses starting long shifts, the bus drivers, the teachers, the shopkeepers and the people who clean our offices and streets while others sleep. Give them strength and kindness. Guard the lonely and the grieving in our community, and let them feel that they are not forgotten. Help me to see the people I meet today as people you love, and to speak and act with patience and honesty. Let my small faithfulness add something good to the common life we share. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, bless my community this morning. Go before the people I will meet today and prepare their hearts. Give peace to those who are anxious, comfort to those who are hurting, and wisdom to those who must make hard choices. Help me to be someone who listens, helps and speaks gently. Let my life point others toward you. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray it first thing, before you check your phone or start the day’s tasks. Sit somewhere you can be still, such as the edge of your bed, a kitchen chair or a porch step, and hold a warm cup in your hands while you speak. The warmth gives your hands something to do and keeps your mind from drifting to the inbox waiting for you.
You can also pray it with someone else. A spouse, a roommate or a neighbor you walk with could take turns reading the lines aloud. If you have a small group or prayer partner, send them the prayer by message so they can pray it for the same people on the same morning.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you and the people you will meet this day. May he give your neighbors rest, your coworkers courage and your community the peace that only he can give. May you walk in kindness, speak truth in love and find his faithfulness waiting for you at every turn.
