This short morning prayer is for anyone who wants to start the day with their faith in the right place, asking God to strengthen trust before the first demands of work, family and worry arrive. Pray it aloud as written when you wake up, or use it as a starting point and add your own names and needs. It takes about two minutes, so it fits between the alarm and the coffee.

Short Morning Prayer for My Faith

Lord, I am waking up to a day I have not yet lived, and my mind is already reaching for the list: the meeting at nine, the phone call I keep putting off, the people I will see and the ones I will worry about. Before any of that begins, I want to begin with you. Thank you for another morning and for the breath I did not have to earn. Give me a quiet heart in the first few minutes, so that my first thoughts belong to you before they belong to my inbox.

Strengthen my faith where it feels thin. Some mornings I believe you are near, and other mornings I feel alone with the day. Remind me that you have already been in yesterday’s hard moments and that you are already waiting in today’s. Help me trust your timing with the things I cannot control, and help me take the next faithful step instead of trying to see the whole road. Make me honest with you about my doubts and patient with myself when I fall short.

Go with me into this day. Guide the way I speak to the people I love and to the ones who frustrate me. Give me kindness for the tired coworker, patience for the child who will not get dressed, and courage for the conversation I have been avoiding. Let my work be done with integrity and my rest be received with gratitude. Keep my heart turned toward you, so that when evening comes I can look back and see your hand in ordinary things. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I start this day in your hands. Steady my faith when I feel uncertain, and quiet my worry about what lies ahead. Help me notice you in the small things, and give me grace for the people I will meet. Keep me close to you through every task and every hard moment, until I rest in you again tonight. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when yesterday’s failures are still heavy. Thank God that his faithfulness begins again each morning, so you can start the day without carrying yesterday’s weight into today.

Psalm 5:3

The LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

(WEB)

Use this verse as a way to offer your first words of the day to God. Name the specific tasks and people ahead, and ask him to hear you before the noise of the day begins.

Psalm 143:8

Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.

(WEB)

Pray this for guidance in the hours ahead. Ask God to show you the way to walk today, especially in decisions you are unsure about, and to help you trust his direction.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to the decisions and plans already on your calendar. Ask God to keep you from leaning only on your own understanding and to make your paths straight as the day unfolds.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Pray this when anxiety starts to rise before you have even left the house. Ask God to keep your mind fixed on him so that peace becomes your steady ground, not something you chase.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer while you are still in bed or sitting at the kitchen table before your phone wakes up. Keep a cup of water or coffee in your hands so your body stays still and your thoughts can settle. If you have a notebook nearby, write down two or three people or tasks you want to hand over to God, then pray for each one by name.

You can also pray this with a spouse, a roommate or a friend who is awake early. Take turns reading a line each, or ask the other person to pray for the part of the day you are most nervous about. Praying together at the start of the day gives you someone to remember your prayer with you when the afternoon gets busy.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep your heart steady and your feet ready for the day ahead. May his faithfulness meet you in every task and every encounter, and may his peace guard your thoughts when the list grows long. Go in trust, knowing you are not walking into this day alone.
