This prayer is for anyone asking God to strengthen their body, ease their pain, or guide their doctors and caregivers. It can be prayed in the morning before the day begins, in the evening before sleep, or in the waiting room before a test. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words into each line.

Prayer for Good Health

Lord, you made my body and you know every part of it, including the parts that ache, tire, or worry me. I come to you today asking for good health, for strength in my heart, my lungs, my hands, and my mind. Where something is sick or weak, I ask for your healing hand. Where my energy runs low, I ask you to restore it. Help me take care of the body you have given me, eating simply, resting well, and moving in ways that bring life rather than wear it down.

I also bring you the people I love who are struggling with illness right now. Be near them in the night when fear is loudest. Give wisdom and skill to the doctors, nurses, and therapists who care for them, and steady hands and patience to the family members who stay awake with them. When the answer is not what I hoped for, remind me that you are still good and still present. Give me peace that does not depend on the outcome, and trust in your timing. Thank you for every healthy breath, every restful night, and every ordinary day that I have taken for granted. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my body is in your hands. Give me strength for this day and healing where I need it. Guide the people who care for me and those I love who are unwell. Calm my worry and remind me that you are near. Thank you for the gift of breath and the gift of life. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 103:2-3

2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…

(WEB)

Use this passage to thank God for the good things you already have, including the body that carries you through each day. Naming his benefits sets your heart toward gratitude while you ask him for more healing.

Jeremiah 30:17

For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds,” says the LORD; “because they have called you an outcast, saying, ‘It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.’”

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you feel forgotten or discouraged by a long illness. It is a promise that God sees your condition and intends to restore you, and you can speak it back to him as your own request.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

When your strength is gone, bring this verse before God and ask him to give you power in place of weakness. It reminds you that he does not run out of energy and that he shares it generously.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Pray this for those whose hearts are broken by sickness or grief. Ask God to bind up the wounds you can see and the hurts you carry quietly, and to tend to the places that need slow, patient care.

3 John 1:2

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.

(WEB)

Read this verse as a blessing and speak it over yourself or someone you love. It expresses the hope that the body would prosper as the soul does, and it gives a simple, hopeful wish to pray daily.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helps to pray this prayer first thing in the morning, while still sitting on the edge of the bed or at the kitchen table with a cup of water. Place one hand on your chest or over the place that hurts as you pray, so your body and your words are joined. If you are caring for someone else, you can hold their hand or keep a photo nearby and pray the prayer on their behalf, changing the pronouns to fit.

Invite a friend, a pastor, or a family member to pray this prayer with you, either in person or by phone. Ask them to keep a copy on their refrigerator or in their wallet so they can pray for you on the days when you cannot find the words yourself. Writing the prayer in a notebook and adding the date each time you pray it can also show you, over weeks, how God is faithful in ways you may not notice day to day.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord strengthen your body and steady your heart. May he give rest to your weary bones and clear breath to your lungs. May he surround you with people who care and with wisdom for each decision ahead. May you walk through each day knowing that you are held by a God who never grows tired.
