This is a bedtime prayer for my daughter, written for the quiet minutes after the lights go down, when the day’s noise has finally stopped and you want to hand her to God before sleep takes over. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the things on your heart that night.

Bedtime Prayer for My Daughter

Lord, thank you for this day and for the gift of my daughter. Thank you for the laughter we shared, the small victories and the moments when she was patient, kind, or brave. Thank you for every meal, every hug, and every bit of ordinary grace that filled the hours between morning and now. Some of it was hard, and some of it I did not handle well, so I ask you to forgive my impatience and to fill in the places where I fell short.

Now I give her to you for the night. Quiet her thoughts if she is anxious about school, friends, or things she has not yet said out loud. If there is a worry sitting heavy in her chest, lift it from her and let her feel your nearness. Guard her sleep and her dreams, and keep every door of her room and her heart closed to fear. Let her wake rested and ready for whatever tomorrow holds, knowing she is never out of your sight.

Be her protector and her steady light, and let her grow up knowing she is loved by you first and most. Help her to trust you more each year, and help me to be the kind of parent who points her toward you. Hold her close tonight, Father, and give us both peace. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, thank you for my daughter and for this day we have shared. Take her worries and her tiredness and hold them for her. Watch over her while she sleep, guard her heart and mind, and wake her gently to a new morning. I trust her to you tonight. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

Pray this verse over your daughter as a statement of trust, asking God to let her lie down and sleep without fear because he is the one who keeps her safe.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release your own anxiety about the next day, thanking God that rest is a gift he gives to his beloved and that you do not have to carry everything alone.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Ask God to guard your daughter’s life, her coming and going, from now until the morning, trusting that his watch over her never pauses for a moment.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Pray for your daughter’s mind to stay fixed on God so that worry loses its grip as she drifts off, and ask that she would know the peace that comes from trusting him.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Bring each anxious thought your daughter has to God in prayer, and ask him to give her the calm that guards her heart and mind through the night.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer at the same time each night, once the bedtime routine is finished and the room is dim. Sit beside her bed or in the doorway, and let your hand rest on her back or her hair while you speak. Physical touch can make the words feel closer, and it gives her the sense that you are present with her as well as with God.

You might also invite a spouse, grandparent, or another trusted adult to pray the same words over her, either together or in turn, so that she hears many voices lifting her up. If she is old enough, ask her what she would like to thank God for or what she is worried about, and add her words to the prayer. Over time she will begin to pray these things herself.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless her and keep her through the night, and may his face shine warmly upon her as she sleeps. May she wake to find his mercy new again, and may she walk through each day knowing she is deeply and forever loved.
