This short morning prayer is for couples who want their marriage to grow stronger, especially at the start of the day when patience is thin and the to-do list is already long. Pray it while you still have a cup of coffee in your hand, before the first conversation of the day begins. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Short Morning Prayer for a Stronger Marriage

Lord, thank You for this new morning and for the gift of the person beside me. Before the noise of the day starts, I bring our marriage to You. Some days we feel close, and some days we feel like roommates passing in the hallway. Help me see my spouse the way You see them, with patience and with tenderness. Where I have been short with them, soften my heart before I speak again today.

Give us both a generous spirit this morning. When the coffee spills, when the kids are late, or when work pulls at our attention, let us choose kindness over the quick sharp word. Teach me to listen more than I defend, and to ask good questions instead of assuming I already know the answer. Protect us from the small resentments that build up quietly when we stop talking honestly.

Be at the center of our home today, Father. Go with my spouse to their meetings, their drives, and their hard conversations, and remind them that they are loved. Keep me mindful of the people we will meet, and let our words to them carry the same grace we hope to show each other. Make our marriage a place where You are welcome, and where each of us feels safe to be known. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, make our marriage strong today. Help me love my spouse with patience, speak to them with respect, and choose gentleness when I feel tired or frustrated. Keep us close to each other and close to You, and let our home be a place of peace from the first hour of the morning. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

1 Corinthians 13:4-5

4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, 5 doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil…

(WEB)

Pray these words over your own tone and attitude this morning. Ask God to make you patient and kind before you have had a chance to be irritated. Name the specific moments you expect to face today and ask for love in them.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.

(WEB)

Thank God for the companionship He has given you in your spouse. Pray that you would help each other up when one of you stumbles, and that neither of you would have to carry a hard day alone.

Ephesians 4:2-3

2 With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love; 3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

(WEB)

Ask for humility, gentleness, and patience as you start the day together. Pray that you would keep the peace between you by choosing unity over being right.

Colossians 3:12-14

12 Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.

(WEB)

Pray that compassion, kindness, and forgiveness would clothe you both today. Ask God to help you bear with each other and to let love hold everything together.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Bring the decisions and worries your marriage faces into God’s hands this morning. Pray that you would trust Him with the plans you have made together, and that He would guide your steps.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can be still for a few minutes, such as before the household wakes or while the kettle is heating. Sitting at the kitchen table with a hand resting on your Bible or on your spouse’s hand can help the words settle in. If you pray alone, take a moment to picture your spouse as you read, so the prayer stays personal.

Invite your spouse to pray it with you once a week, or ask a trusted friend or mentor to pray for your marriage. Let them know which parts of your relationship feel most fragile right now. Over time, a short daily prayer like this can shape the way you speak to each other all day long.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord strengthen your marriage from the inside out today. May He give you both grace for each other, patience for the hard moments, and joy in the small ones. May your love grow deeper with every morning you choose to pray together.
