This is a daily prayer for my mother, written for the times when you want to bring her before God but do not know where to begin. Pray it in the morning before the day gets loud, or in the evening once the house is quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words wherever your heart leads.

Daily Prayer for My Mother

Lord, I come to You this morning with my mother on my heart. You know her better than I ever could: the years she has carried, the worries she keeps to herself, the small joys that never make it into a text message. Thank You for her life and for the ways she has shaped mine. Strengthen her body where it is tired, and give her rest that reaches all the way down into her spirit.

Watch over her health, Father, and guide the doctors, nurses and caregivers who look after her. Where she is afraid, be her calm. Where she is lonely, remind her that she is never alone, and send people who will sit with her and listen. Give her clear thoughts when decisions are hard, and wisdom for the choices that are hers to make. Protect her mind from anxiety and her heart from bitterness.

Keep her close to You today. Let her feel Your nearness in ordinary moments, a cup of tea, a song on the radio, a kind word from a stranger. And as for me, help me love her well, honor her with patience, and speak to her with grace. Hold her in Your hands, Lord, as only You can. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my mother needs You today. Be near her in whatever she is facing. Give her strength for the next hour, peace where there is worry, and someone to remind her she is loved. Watch over her going out and coming in. Thank You that she is in Your care. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this over your mother as a promise of protection for every hour she is out of your sight. Ask God to guard her coming and going, through the routine errands and the unexpected days alike.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When your mother is anxious, bring her worries to God as specific requests and ask Him to replace her fear with a peace she cannot manufacture herself. Pray that it would guard her thoughts through the day.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Ask God to give your mother strength where her own runs low. Pray especially for the tired moments, when the body and the spirit both need to be lifted.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

(WEB)

Pray that your mother would sense the presence of the Shepherd in whatever valley she walks through. Ask Him to make His nearness real to her, even on the darkest days.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Pray that your mother would rest in the certainty that nothing can separate her from the love of God. Ask Him to let that truth settle into her heart when she feels forgotten or unworthy.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time that is already part of your day, such as while the coffee brews, during your drive, or before you pick up the phone to call her. Keeping the same time each day makes it easier to remember, and over weeks you will notice how your own heart toward her begins to change. A small thing to hold in your hands, like a photograph of her or a ring you wear, can anchor your attention and turn your thoughts back to her when they drift.

You do not have to pray this alone. Invite a sibling, a friend, or your church family to pray the same words for her on the same day, and let them know what she is facing. Consider sharing a line of the prayer with your mother herself, so she knows she is being lifted up. Her own prayers, even the quiet ones, are part of this story too.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your mother and keep her. May He make His face shine on her and be gracious to her, and may He give her peace that steadies her through every day. May she know, deep down, how deeply she is loved by the God who never grows weary of her. And may you rest in the same faithful care.
