This daily prayer for letting go is for the moments when you are holding on to worries, regrets, or outcomes that are not yours to control. Pray it in the morning to set your heart down before the day begins, or at night when the day’s weight is still pressing on your chest. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Daily Prayer for Letting Go

Lord, I come to you this morning with my hands full. I am carrying things I did not ask to carry: the conversation I keep replaying, the bills that do not quite add up, the health worry I have not said out loud to anyone. Some of these I have tried to fix on my own, and some I have simply worried over until I am too tired to think. I am tired of gripping them so tightly. Help me see which of these burdens I was never meant to hold.

Father, I open my hands now. I give you the people I cannot change, the decisions that are already made, and the future that I keep trying to picture and control. Loosen my grip on what I cannot fix, and steady my heart where I feel anxious. Where I am tempted to take back what I have released, remind me that you are still holding it. Give me enough trust to rest for today, and let tomorrow’s worries wait until tomorrow.

Thank you that I am not asked to carry everything alone. You are faithful when I am weak, and you are near when I feel forgotten. Teach me to receive your peace as a gift rather than something I must earn. Let me walk into this day lighter, not because my problems have vanished, but because I have placed them in the hands that made me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am holding on again. I release this worry to you now, and I ask you to take what I cannot carry. Help me breathe slowly and trust that you are already at work in this situation. Quiet my mind, and remind me that you are close. I give this to you, and I am choosing to rest in your care for the next hour. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming one specific burden you are releasing, then speaking the promise back to God. The image of casting something onto the Lord asks you to physically let go, not just think about letting go.

Matthew 11:28-29

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when you feel exhausted by worry. Ask Jesus to show you what it looks like to take his yoke instead of carrying your own load alone, and notice where you feel the invitation to rest.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by listing your anxieties one by one and handing each to God. Peter’s words remind you that the care you are releasing is already known to the one who cares for you.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage when worry turns into a repeating loop. Turn each anxious thought into a specific request, give thanks for one thing God has already done, and ask for the peace that guards your heart and mind.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when your thoughts race ahead of you. Ask God to keep your mind fixed on him, and let the steadiness of trust replace the restless effort to control what comes next.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet moment before you check your phone or start your tasks, perhaps while you are still sitting on the edge of your bed or standing at the kitchen sink with a cup of coffee. Something physical helps the words settle in: you might open your palms on your lap, or hold a small object you can set down when you finish. Read the prayer slowly, and pause after each burden you name so you can actually release it rather than rushing past.

If you are praying this for someone else, such as a spouse, a child, or a friend who cannot seem to put down a difficult situation, read it together or speak it over them with your hand on their shoulder. You might also invite a trusted friend or small group to pray it with you once a week, so the release becomes shared rather than something you attempt alone. Return to the same prayer each day for a few weeks, and notice how God meets you in the repetition.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord take the weight you have been carrying and give you rest that reaches deeper than your tired body. May his peace guard your heart when old worries return, and may you find that the day is lighter than you feared. Go in the strength of the one who holds all things, knowing you are never released from his care.
