This prayer is for the ordinary days when you need God’s grace to meet the moment in front of you. Pray it in the morning before the day begins, or whenever you feel your strength running thin. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.

Prayer for Daily Grace

Father, I come to you before the day has had a chance to pile up. I know what is waiting for me: the people who will need patience from me, the work that will ask more than I think I have, the small irritations that always seem to arrive at the worst time. I do not know how I will get through all of it. I only know that I need you to give me what I cannot produce on my own.

So I ask for your grace today. Give me gentleness when I am tired, and wisdom when I do not know what to say. Let my words be kind even when I am frustrated, and let my hands do the work you have set in front of me without resentment. Where I have already failed you in my thoughts or my tone, forgive me, and remind me that your mercy starts fresh each morning. Help me to rest in you rather than striving in my own strength.

I trust you with the hours I cannot see yet. Walk with me through each one, and let your grace be enough for each step. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am running low on patience and strength right now. Give me your grace for the next hour, and then the one after that. Help me respond with kindness instead of reacting out of my own fatigue. Show me the one thing I need to do next, and give me enough calm to do it well. I receive your mercy again today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray these words when yesterday’s failures feel heavy. Thank God that his mercies are renewed every morning, and ask him to let that fresh mercy shape how you meet the day ahead.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Use this verse when you feel too weak for what is in front of you. Ask the Lord to show you that his grace is sufficient right where your own strength has run out.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Speak this verse slowly when pressure is building. Name the specific worry you carry, and ask God to be the refuge you run to before you run anywhere else.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel drained and have nothing left to give. Ask God to give strength to your weariness, and to increase your power in the places where you feel least able.

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

(WEB)

Bring this verse into conversations where tempers are short. Ask God to shape your words so they build up the people you speak with and give them the grace they need.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find the early morning is the best time, while the house is quiet and before messages and obligations start to press in. Sit at the kitchen table or on the edge of the bed with a cup of something warm in your hands. Let the first few breaths slow you down before you begin speaking.

If you are praying with someone else, such as a spouse, a roommate or a friend who is also struggling, read the prayer together and take turns on the lines about what each of you is facing. You might also keep a folded copy in your bag or taped inside a cabinet door, so you can pray the shorter version during a difficult meeting, a long commute or a moment at the sink when everything feels like too much.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord give you grace for this day, one step and one breath at a time. May his mercy meet you in your weakness and his strength carry you where your own legs cannot. May you go out in peace, knowing that the One who made the morning is faithfully present in every hour that follows.
