This night prayer for good health is written for the end of the day, when you are ready to set down your worries about your body and rest in God’s care. Pray it at bedtime, after the lights are low and before you fall asleep. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Night Prayer for Good Health

Lord, I come to you at the end of this day, tired in body and maybe tired in mind too. Thank you for the strength you gave me today, for the food on the table, for the stairs I climbed without thinking and the breath that came easily. Thank you that my body is not something I have to hold together on my own. Help me let go of the things I could not fix today, including the ache in my back, the tightness in my chest when I think about the test results, or the cough that kept me up. Give my body the rest it was made for.

Father, I ask for good health for myself and for the people I love. Watch over the ones who are sick tonight, the ones waiting for a diagnosis, and the ones who are recovering slowly. Guard my heart from anxious thoughts that keep me awake, and steady my mind so I can sleep. Be my protection through the night, and wake me in the morning with a body you have strengthened. I trust you with what I cannot control, and I thank you that you never sleep or grow weary. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am worn out and I need your help to rest. Calm my body and quiet my thoughts. Watch over my health and the health of those I love while I sleep. Protect us from harm, heal what is hurting, and give us strength for tomorrow. Into your hands I place this night and every part of my body. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as you lie down, naming your fear of a restless night and asking God to give you the peace that lets you sleep. Notice the word “alone” and let it remind you that you are never without his watch.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and imagine God as the one who stays awake while you sleep. Ask him to guard your body, your family, and your home through every hour of the night.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release the habit of worrying late into the night. Tell God the things you have been trying to carry on your own, and receive his gift of rest.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this for the body that feels depleted. Ask the Lord to renew your strength for the coming day, and to lift the weariness that has settled into your bones.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Hold this verse as an invitation. Bring God your exhaustion, your sickness, or your fear, and let the words of Jesus shape the way you ask for rest and healing.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a consistent time for this prayer, such as after you brush your teeth or when you turn off the bedroom light. Sitting on the edge of your bed with your feet on the floor can help your body settle while your mind slows down. If you have a sick child, an aging parent, or a partner who struggles with sleep, pray the prayer over them by name as you stand near their door.

Keep something simple in your hands while you pray, such as a folded blanket, a glass of water, or a small cross or stone you keep on the nightstand. Let your fingers rest on it as a reminder to hand over your body and your worries. If your mind wanders, return to one line of the prayer and say it again slowly.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord guard your going out and your coming in, and keep your body strong through the night. May he settle your heart and heal whatever is weary within you. May his peace be the last thing you know before you sleep, and his faithfulness the first thing you feel when you wake.
